I am an educator, geospatial evangelist and problem solver.
I lead workshops and and trainings for youth, educators (formal and non-formal) and geospatial professionals at the local, state, national and international level on a variety of topics. I work with youth in K-12 informal education as well as university undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students.

Over the past 20 years I have worked in museum education, Instructional Technology professional development, Geospatial Technology outreach, geography education leadership, social studies education and youth development in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
My PhD from North Carolina State University is in Curriculum and Instruction with a research focus on spatial cognition and GIS in Education. I earned my Masters of Education and GIS Certificate at NC State as well. As an undergraduate, I double majored in history and social sciences, with additional coursework in education.
I am named after a place, Shannon Hill, Virginia. I live in Williamsburg, Virginia with my partner Matt and our 2 dogs, Marco and Charlie (pictured above having a “ruff” time reading the road map.
